People often spend their lives seeking their purpose in life, and oftentimes purpose comes in the form of the career they choose. While it’s wonderful and fulfilling to do work that you love, it is still important to take breaks. If people pour most of their time, energy, and thoughts into only work, burnout can set in and make it hard to keep going. Sometimes, people don’t even realize that burn out is why they feel the way they do… or even realize they are burnt out at all.

Burnout comes from chronic stress at work, and can manifest as exhaustion, cynicism and detachment, and feeling a lack of accomplishment. In other words, it can be really hard to stay motivated to go to work, even if it’s a job you used to love.

Fortunately, there are ways to prevent and cope with burnout. For instance, if you tend to work long hours, it could help to cut back on or take more breaks during the workday. It’s also important to tap into your social support network when you start noticing burnout symptoms. Lastly, find and use healthy coping strategies that help you relax.
